TLDR;

Here, we’ll compare Nectar and Loom & Leaf, highlighting each brand’s features and offerings.

Nectar vs Loom and Leaf

Every time you look, it seems like there’s another new mattress on the market. As the mattress industry continues to grow, it’s not only that current companies are expanding their product lines, but new companies are popping up all the time as well.

All the options can get confusing. That’s why we’re here to help! Our detailed comparisons make it easy to select the right mattress for your needs and preferences.

Today, we’re going to compare two popular mattress companies: Nectar and Loom & Leaf.

Read on for more about both brands and their respective collections, or skip to the summary section, if you’re in a hurry.

Although both companies are known for their high-quality yet affordable mattresses, there are a few key differences between the two.

  • Nectar offers a highly-rated soft but solid mattress plus frames and foundations.
  • Loom & Leaf offers an eco-friendly, high-performance mattress as well as an adjustable base.

Here’s our detailed comparison of the two companies and their most popular mattresses.

Who Is It For?

Both Nectar and Loom & Leaf use a similar all-foam, layered construction.

Each mattress has a firm poly foam base, responsive middle layer, and memory foam upper layer for a combination. The two beds are rated as mid-firmness, although Loom & Leaf has two firmness options while Nectar only has one.

Most notable is the gel foam zone included in the memory foam top layer. Not only does this help relieve pressure, but it also promotes cooling.

This makes both mattresses excellent choices for those that value a cool, breathable foam mattress that helps dissipate body heat as you sleep.

Although both models rank well for all sleeping positions, smaller people might find the Nectar more comfortable while the Loom & Leaf is arguably more versatile.

Nectar Mattress

  • Semi-Firm, Cool
  • Great pricing and promotions
  • Construction of the Mattress

Nectar and Loom & Leaf both have an all-foam construction, including a gel-infused memory foam top layer.

Despite the similar construction, firmness, and breathability, each mattress uses slightly different construction methods to achieve these characteristics.

Loom & Leaf starts with a quilted organic cotton top layer to prevent overheating. Next is the cooling gel zone which further promotes breathability.

Underneath these two upper layers is the bulk of the mattress: a block of premium memory foam for long-lasting support. Finally, there’s a supportive poly foam base layer (with airflow channels for better cooling) for support and durability.

The Nectar mattress remains just as cool but is arguably the “bouncier” of the two. It starts with a luxurious pillow-top surface followed by a gel memory foam top layer.

Next is the adaptive memory foam core that provides extra cushion for sleeping while simultaneously ensuring breathability. Like the Loom & Leaf mattress, the Nectar’s bottom layer is made from supportive poly foam.

    Trial Period & Guarantee

Among the best aspects of the blossoming online mattress industry are the excellent trial periods and guarantees.

Nectar edges out Loom & Leaf with their amazing 365-night trail period. Return your mattress (shipping is free) any time within the first year for free. Note that returns don’t refund any white glove delivery service charges.

All Nectar mattresses come with a Forever Warranty, including indentations of more than 1.5 inches (unrelated to improper use).

Loom & Leaf, on the other hand, offers a still impressive 120-day home trial. Returns are free but include a $99 shipping charge.

A 15-year warranty is offered on all Loom & Leaf mattresses. This covers complete replacement for the first two years, as well as indentations of more than ¾ inch (from improper usage) for the entire term.

You get to keep your old Loom & Leaf mattress if you replace it under warranty, so you can use it in a spare room or give it to someone in need.

    Firmness Level

Both of these models rank right in the middle regarding firmness.

Nectar, for instance, ranks its mattresses as between a 5.5 to 7.5 out of 10 (10 being the most firm).

The mattress construction, however, makes the Nectar mattress “bouncier” than most. Although this is perfect for those that prefer extra plushness, it might not be best for those that prefer a firmer sleep surface.

The Loom & Leaf mattress, while also mid-range firmness, feels firmer. It doesn’t have nearly as much “sink” as the Nectar.

Remember that Loom & Leaf offers “relaxed firm” and “firm” comfort levels. The “relaxed firm” is most comparable to Nectar (although still firmer) while the “firm” is better for those that do prefer a firm, rather than mid-firm, mattress.

    Comfort

Both mattresses utilize memory foam, making them comfortable for all sleeping positions, as long as you prefer mid-firmness.

Although there are slight differences in firmness levels, both the Nectar and Loom & Leaf are notable for their all-around comfort, thanks to their multi-layered construction.

To prevent overheating, both mattresses incorporate a gel cooling layer to promote breathability and circulation.

    Smell Effect

Off-gassing is minimal with both of these mattresses.

Nectar claims their mattress has no off-gassing. Although they say the mattress has a minimal smell, any smell it does have is due to the fresh foam and will dissipate quickly.

Loom & Leaf also claims minimal odor and no off-gassing thanks to their eco-friendly construction and materials.

    Motion Isolation

Because Nectar and Loom & Leaf both use memory foam, motion disruption is minimal.

Although both models promote motion isolation, Nectar probably has a bit more motion due to its “bouncier” design.

Alternatively, Loom & Leaf has top-notch motion isolation, eliminating the feeling of motion from reaching you when your sleeping partner moves around at night.

    The Ordering Process

Ordering a Nectar mattress is simple – head online, select your preferred size, and add the mattress to your cart.

The process of ordering a Loom & Leaf mattress is just as simple. Visit their website, select your preferred size and comfort level, and add to your cart.

    Both manufacturers offer free shipping.

Keep your eyes open for sales, as both Nectar and Loom & Leaf regularly offer seasonal discounts and other special sales.

    Delivery & Packaging

A Nectar mattress takes roughly eight days to arrive after ordering.

The mattress will arrive in a large box, roughly 45 to 105 pounds depending on the mattress size. If you don’t want to set up the mattress yourself, Nectar’s “white glove service” will set up your mattress, frame, and foundation for an additional fee.

Loom & Leaf’s mattress delivery is just as quick.

Because their team actually delivers the mattress for you, they’ll notify you a day before delivery to set up a 4-hour delivery window. Your mattress will be delivered and unboxed for you – at no extra charge.

Remember to check “Free Mattress Removal” upon ordering if you have an old mattress you no longer need. The Loom & Leaf team will take it away for you at no additional cost.

    Conclusion

So how do I make a final decision?

Choosing a mattress is not a decision to be taken lightly. You’ll be spending a third of your time on the mattress you choose, so it’s important to take the time to examine all the options and compare everything from features to firmness to price. Here’s a sum up of our view of two fairly comparable brands – Nectar and Loom & Leaf.

Nectar has one mattress option while Loom and Leaf offers two firmness options – relaxed firm and firm. Both brands use foam construction and both brands include a cooling gel foam top.

Mattress firmness is a very individual preference – some prefer a mattress you can sink into, and other prefers a more solid, less plush feel. The two brands we are comparing here cover the firmness spectrum. Nectar’s mattress is more bouncy and soft, while both Loom & Leaf mattresses are firmer than Nectar. Even Loom & Leaf’s relaxed firm option is firmer than Nectar.

Another difference between brands is the warranty. We love Nectar’s “forever warranty” – who could ask for more? On the other hand, Loom & Leaf gives a 15-year warranty, which will cover the reasonable life of the mattress anyway. Essentially, the main difference between Nectar and Loom & Leaf is firmness, so this should be your guiding star.
