Tempur-Pedic Mattress Review

TLDR;

If the name “Tempur-Pedic” is familiar to you, there’s a good reason.

tempur pedic mattress review

The mattress brand has been a popular household brand for close to 30 years, and it is a pioneer in bringing memory foam mattresses to the US market. In the years since, Tempur-Pedic has continued to develop its mattress products in more advanced directions. The original Tempur foam is based on space technology from NASA, but this is just a springboard to mattress collections that offer superior support, comfort, and cooling effects. While Tempur-Pedic falls into the higher end category and is not a budget brand, it offers good value for money, due to its outstanding quality and features. Here’s a review of the Tempur-Pedic brand and its various mattresses, from advanced to ultra-advanced.

You can always skip to the summary section, if you’re in a hurry.

Who Is it For?

Tempur-Pedic is an advanced mattress company with prices to match. It’s an ideal fit for people who have specific sleep needs. For example, its Tempur-breeze range is a technology-based mattress that offers outstanding cooling for people who sleep warm. The Tempur-LuxeAdapt is superb for motion isolation. The company offers some hybrid mattress options, although its specialty lies in its advanced foams. Tempur-Pedic is an ideal choice for people looking to buy a mattress that offers exceptional support and contouring. It is not really suitable for budget or student purchases, nor is it the type of mattress you would choose to invest in for the guest room.

Rather, it’s a great choice for posture support, contouring relief, and pressure regulation. Let’s take a look at the four mattresses in the Tempur-Pedic collection.

Tempur-Pedic’s Mattress Construction

Tempur-Pedic mattresses are constructed of the brand’s proprietary Tempur foam, adapted from pressure-relieving material developed by NASA to absorb g-force during shuttle launches. The materials have been customized by Tempur-Pedic scientists into a foam material ideal for the perfect sleep.

But that is just the start. Tempur-Pedic’s four mattress types are each designed for a different sleep effect. The Tempur-Adapt is the brand’s original mattress. It is 11 inches thick and constructed of three layers: the original Tempur support layer, the Tempur-ES comfort layer, and topped with a premium knit cover.

The Tempur-ProAdapt features the Tempur-APR support layer, an advanced pressure-relieving material for deep comfort that ensures a rejuvenating sleep. This is topped with a layer of Tempur-ES Comfort for extra support and relaxation, and the upper section is comprised of a super-stretch inner layer, and cooling, zip-off outer layer for added comfort and convenience. The ProAdapt is slightly thicker than the Tempur-Adapt, at 12 inches high.

The Tempur-LuxeAdapt is similar in construction to the Tempur-ProAdapt, however, it includes a layer of advanced Tempur-APR+ material, which makes the mattress slightly thicker and elevated for an added touch of luxury. The LuxeAdapt is 13 inches thick and available in Soft and Firm feels.

The Tempur-breeze is an advanced mattress with cool-promoting construction for a comfortable sleep all night long. It incorporates a 3-layer cooling system, including a Tempur-CM+ bottom layer that is extremely breathable, promoting airflow and releasing trapped humidity during the night. This is followed by a layer of PureCool+ Phase Change material that cools the mattress as you fall asleep, with a top layer of SmartClimate Dual cover system for an instant cooling sensation. The Tempur-breeze comes in two versions, the PRObreeze, which maintains a cooling effect of 3 degrees, and the LUXEbreeze, which cools the mattress down by 8 degrees. This is due to the inclusion of Tempur-APR ventilated foam that works even harder to keep the temperature down.

Tempur-Pedic Trial Period and Guarantee

Tempur-Pedic offers a 90-day trial period, which is not as generous as competing brands but certainly adequate to ensure you are happy with the purchase. The trial period only applies to mattresses purchased on the Tempur-Pedic official website or from a Tempur-Pedic flagship store and may incur a shipping fee of $175 if you took advantage of a free shipping offer during purchase.

Tempur-Pedic mattresses come with a 10-year full replacement limited warranty covering manufacturing defects and damage that is not a result of improper use.

Tempur-Pedic Firmness Level

Each Tempur-Pedic mattress collection offers various firmness levels. The Tempur-Adapt comes in Medium feel, also with a Medium Hybrid option, which incorporates over 1000 spring coils in the construction. The Tempur-ProAdapt is available in Soft, Medium, Firm, as well as a Medium Hybrid version. The Tempur-LuxeAdapt comes in two firmness levels, Soft and Firm, while the Tempur-breeze is available in Soft, Medium, Firm and Medium Hybrid. While available in a range of firmness levels, Tempur-Medic mattresses are highly supportive and contouring and they provide excellent pressure relief, with no sinking or bouncing feeling.

Tempur-Pedic Comfort

For people who sleep hot and are looking for a cooling mattress, Tempur-breeze is an excellent offering, with the most advanced cooling mattresses on the market. The cooling technology is available in two systems to cool the mattress by 3-8 degrees, so you can even choose the cooling level according to your needs.

In addition, the proprietary Tempur material, adapted from highly shock absorbant NASA material, offers outstanding comfort levels that are top of the range. The company has developed a number of versions of the exclusive Tempur, such as Tempur-APR, designed for ultimate pressure relief, and Tempur-APR+, which relieves pressure by 30% more than the standard APR material. When it comes to Tempur-Pedic, there is really no compromising with comfort.

Tempur-Pedic Smell Effect

Tempur-Pedic mattresses have a mild smell effect due to the advanced foam material, however, it is not unusual and will quickly dissipate once the mattress has been opened and had a chance to breathe.

Tempur-Pedic Motion Isolation

Tempur-Pedic mattresses perform very well in terms of motion isolation, however, the Tempur-LuxeAdapt takes motion control to the next level. The Tempur-APR+ layer is designed for maximum pressure relief and almost zero motion transfer This is enhanced by the intuitive contouring effect of the other Tempur material incorporated into the mattress. It is important to note that it is a high-end mattress with a price tag to match, however, the outstanding motion isolation may well be worth the investment if you are a light sleeper who doesn’t want to be disturbed during the night.

The Ordering Process

Tempur-Pedic mattresses and other products can be ordered simply and easily via the company website, in a flagship Tempur-Pedic store or even by phone. Pricing is the same no matter where you order from. If you have any questions or issues, you can call the company and speak to a Sleep Expert who will provide the necessary guidance. This is a nice convenience in an internet-centric world.

Tempur-Pedic Delivery and Packaging

Unlike other online mattress companies, Tempur-Pedic offers a White Glove delivery service at no charge. This includes delivery and installation of the mattress to your home, removal of all packaging removals and removal of your old mattress and base if necessary. This is a nice perk, however, note that the service is not free to Alaska, Hawaii, and remote locations. Unfortunately, the company does not ship to APO/FPO and US Territories.

Expect to receive your mattress in an average of 1-2 weeks from placing the order. The exact time frame will depend on your location.

With Tempur-Pedic, mattress buyers are assured of a high-quality product based on decades of development. In fact, the Tempur-Pedic brand pioneered the use of memory foam in mattresses, so it is definitely a brand that can be trusted. There is a small range of ultra-advanced mattresses available, each with cutting edge features that set it apart from anything else on the market. A great example is the Tempur-breeze collection, which is one of the most effective mattresses for a cooler sleep sensation.

Be prepared however for pricing at the higher end. However, for those with the budget to match, Tempur-Pedic is an excellent choice.
